Minimum Qualifications Strictly adhered to based on Civil Service requirements | Minimum Qualifications for candidates eligible for provisional appointment: Completion of 120 credit hours of college coursework, with at least 18 credit hours in biology, chemistry, health science, physics, or science technology and six additional credit hours in computer science, mathematics, or science; or three years of experience performing tests and procedures in a laboratory or clinical setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC or Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis. or Promotion - one year of service as a Laboratory Technician or a Medical Laboratory Technician. or Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 10 or higher and either: 1. completed at least 120 semester credit hours of college coursework which includes at least 18 semester credit hours in either biology, chemistry, physics, health science, or science technology and six (6) additional semester credit hours in science, mathematics, or computer science; Or 2. three years of satisfactory experience in either a laboratory or clinical setting performing laboratory tests and procedures; Or 3. a combination of 1 and 2 above equaling three years. College study will be credited in six-month segments, with 15 semester credit hours equaling six months. Credits must include at least 18 semester credit hours in either biology, chemistry, physics, health science, or science technology and six (6) additional semester credit hours in science, mathematics, or computer science. If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify based on 70.4 transfer options cannot be considered. Senior Laboratory Technicians may be required to meet requirements as stated in Title 10, Part 58-1.4 of New York State Code, Rules and Regulations. |
