New York State Covered Electronic Equipment
The table below lists equipment that is considered to be "covered electronic equipment" (CEE) under the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act (39 KB PDF) (Act) at this time. Following the table is a list of equipment that does not qualify as CEE at this time. The lists are subject to modification as technological developments result in new electronic equipment and/or functional or other changes to products to occur. If you are unsure whether or not a piece of equipment falls within the scope of the Act, please contact the NYS E-waste Recycling Team at (518) 402-8706 or by e-mail.
Instructions for Electronic Equipment Manufacturers:
It is the manufacturer's responsibility to determine whether or not its electronic equipment is covered under the Act. A manufacturer may submit a request for a CEE determination to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (Department) in writing via e-mail or regular mail to:
Product Stewardship & Extended Producer Responsibility Section
Division of Materials Management
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
625 Broadway
Albany, NY 12233-7253
Such determination requests must include: the manufacturer's name; brand name(s); the product's technical specifications; and a link to the product in question, if available. The Department will review a request for a CEE determination and provide a determination directly to the requesting manufacturer. The Department may also, on its own initiative, make a determination as to whether a subcategory of equipment falls under the scope of CEE. All new determinations will be posted on this webpage. An entity meeting the definition of manufacturer under the Act due to the addition of a newly-determined subcategory of CEE will have to register its brands with the Department. The Department will try to reach out to manufacturers of CEE that is added to the list; however, it is ultimately the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure compliance with the Act. Please be sure to check this page regularly for any newly-added CEE.
