Local Recycling Coordinator and NYSDEC Recycling Contacts
Local Recycling Coordinators (LRCs) and NYSDEC Regional Recycling Contacts (RRCs) are sustainable materials management professionals who assist New York State residents with waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and garbage-related questions and support municipal entities with outreach and education within their communities.
There are nine NYSDEC Regional Recycling Contacts, one assigned to each of the nine NYSDEC Regions. In addition to answering questions, they provide input on local solid waste management planning and assist Local Recycling Coordinators. Local Recycling Coordinators are dispersed across the state and typically serve specific counties or municipalities. LRCs are a great first point of contact for local recycling questions and community-specific assistance.
Contacting your Local Recycling Coordinator
You may contact either your Local Recycling Coordinator or your NYSDEC Regional Recycling Contact anytime you:
- Have a question or concern regarding management of your trash and/or recycling
- Need clarification on what is accepted for recycling in your area
- Would like to request assistance or support with waste reduction and recycling outreach and education
The appropriate LRC or RRC to contact depends on your location. Recycling rules and programs vary across the state, so connecting with the correct local contact ensures you receive accurate, location-specific information.
