NYSDEC administers state assistance programs for waste reduction, recycling and household hazardous waste (HHW) programs. Funding is provided on a 50% reimbursement rate for eligible costs.

- Grants for Recycling Coordination and Education Projects
- Grants for Household Hazardous Waste Projects
- Grants for Municipal Landfill Closure Projects
- Grants for Municipal Landfill Gas Management Projects
Eligibility
The following entities within New York State are eligible to apply for these grants:
- Counties, Cities, Towns or Villages
- Local Public Authorities
- Local Public Benefit Corporations (organizations established by State Law)
- School Districts, Supervisory Districts & Improvement Districts
- Native American Tribes or Nations residing in New York State
For a beverage container assistance project under the Recycling Capital Projects, a not-for-profit organization also qualifies as an eligible applicant.
For the Municipal Landfill Closure Projects, the municipal applicant must own an inactive (or soon to be inactive) solid waste landfill in New York State.
For the Municipal Landfill Gas Management Projects, the eligible applicant must own or operate a permitted non-hazardous solid waste landfill in New York State.
