Adirondack and Catskill Park Day

Join us for the first ever Adirondack and Catskill Park Day on Saturday, September 7, 2024! DEC, in partnership with Parks & Trails New York (PTNY), will host stewardship events throughout the Adirondack and Catskill Parks for the public to participate in. Help celebrate and protect New York’s unique Forest Preserve lands by removing invasive species, cleaning up campgrounds, repairing fencing, building trails, and so much more!
Gather your friends and family and join your community in helping to preserve and protect New York lands!

Catskill Park
CANCELED - Beaverkill Campground and Day Use Area
Time: 11am – 3pm
Location: Roscoe, Sullivan County
Project: Facility and campsite cleanup.
Mongaup Pond Campground and Day Use Area
Time: 11am – 3pm
Location: Livingston Manor, Sullivan County
Project: Perennial planting and garden maintenance.

Big Pond—event hosted in partnership with Catskill Mountainkeeper
Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm
Location: Andes, Delaware County
Project: Join Catskill Mountainkeeper’s Trail Stewards for an end of season walk and clean-up of the Big Pond campsites and recreation areas. We’ll meet at 10:30am at the trailhead to gather and distribute trash bags and then spend no more than 2 hours walking and cleaning up the sites after a busy summer season!

Kaaterskill Falls – event hosted in partnership with the Catskill Center
Time: 10:30am – 3pm
Location: Hunter, Greene County
Project: Meet with the Catskill Center Stewards at Kaaterskill Falls. Spend time helping to clean up the area - gloves, trash bags, and trash pickers will be available for use. Bring a bag lunch and enjoy learning about Leave No Trace principals from our knowledgeable Stewards.

Adirondack Park
Adirondack Interpretive Center (AIC) – event hosted in partnership with the AIC
Time: 10am – 12pm
Location: Newcomb, Essex County
Project: Help us clean up our wildflower gardens and trail edges. Possibly include planting of wildflowers.

Adirondack Rail Trail—event hosted in partnership with the Adirondack Rail Trail Association
Time: 8am – 12pm
Location: Adirondack Rail Trail, Essex, and Franklin Counties
Project: Carefully clear coating/treating the cut ends and top surfaces of new timber rail fences along Phase 1 of the Rail Trail from Fowler's Crossing to Saranac Lake. If we get enough volunteers, we will also do the section in Phase 1 from Fowler's Crossing to Lake Placid. (Please note: we are NOT doing the whole railings)

Lake Harris Campground and Day Use Area
Time: 10am – 2pm
Location: Newcomb, Essex County
Project: Campground raking and facility cleanup.
