Free Ice Fishing Clinic at Canadarago Lake (Otsego County)

Join NYS DEC and State Parks at the Canadarago Lake Free Fishing Day Clinic on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 to learn the basics of ice fishing. Participants will learn ice safety tips, techniques on how to fish through the ice, winter ecology, and the different fish species to catch during the winter! There will also be a fish filleting demonstration.
No freshwater fishing license is required to participate. During the fishing clinic there will be loaner fishing rods and bait provided for participants to use.
Pre-registration required. There are three time blocks available for pre-registration, with a 50-person max per block. The time blocks run an hour and a half each and include: 9:30AM-11AM, 11:30AM-1PM, and 1:30PM-3PM. Contact New York State Parks at 607-547-8662 to reserve your spot!
Rain Date: In the event there is inclement weather or unsafe ice, the free learn to fish clinic will be held on Saturday, February 28.
