Funding to Support the Tree Supply Chain and Forest Product Sectors
Purpose
This grant program was created to scale up the tree supply chain and forest product markets in New York State, advancing toward the State’s 25 Million Trees goal. The program aims to increase the affordability of trees for planting projects, address supply challenges within these sectors, and build demand for forest products to foster economic development.
Grant Program Overview
The Advancing Forest Markets (AFM) Grant Program is offering more than $46 million through three funding opportunities to producers that establish farm records with the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency, including the:
- 25 Million Trees Nursery Discount Program (TND), which provides an incentive to nurseries for selling trees to customers at a discounted price;
- Growing Reforestation Opportunities (GRO), which incentivizes nursery growers, seed collection networks, and other entities to scale up their production capacity and support tree supply chain markets; and
- Tree Market Boost & Revitalization Program (TMBR), which incentivizes forestry and forest product businesses and other entities to expand their capacity and support forest-based markets, such as those related to reforestation, forest management, timber, wood, maple syrup, and other forest products.
