Invasive Species Regulations
Regulations are developed to help control invasive species by reducing their introduction and spread. In 2015, a NYS Regulation 6 NYCRR Part 575 became effective which prohibits or regulates the possession, transport, importation, sale, purchase and introduction of select invasive species. This regulation includes plants, animals, invertebrates, fungi, algae, and cyanobacteria.
Invasive Species Council and Advisory Committee
The Invasive Species Council (Council) is a statutory body that was created in 2008 by Title 17, Section 9 of the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL). The Council was created to coordinate among multiple State entities and partners in addressing the environmental and economic threats of invasive species.
Invasive Species Partners
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation partners with resource managers, non-governmental organizations, industry professionals, recreational groups, and other state agencies to combat invasive species. Eight Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISMs) exist across New York State.
Invasive Species Grant Program
The Invasive Species Grant Program helps applicants attain the proper funds for combatting both aquatic and terrestrial invasive species throughout New York State.
Invasive Species Education and Outreach Initiatives
Invasive species education and outreach helps to increase awareness of the threats that these species pose as well as actions that people can take to reduce the risk of their spread.
