Town of Woodstock, Ulster County - The Town of Woodstock has designated "Zena Woods" as a Critical Environmental Area (CEA).
The boundaries of the area are depicted on a map titled Zena Woods CEA, dated May 31, 2023. The designation was adopted by the Town of Woodstock Town Board on September 20, 2022, as Resolution No. 180-2022, and filed with the New Yrok State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) Commissioner on June 5, 2023, in accordance with SEQR regulations 6 NYCRR Part 617.14(g). This designation becomes effective on July 5, 2023.
The basis for the designation is exceptional and/or unique environmental characteristics. The CEA encompasses upland forests, shrublands, meadows, forested swamps, vernal pools, ponds, marshes, many small streams, and a segment of the Sawkill. The designation recognizes the importance of the area for the ecological services to the human community, valuable habitats for wildlife and plants, and support of local ecosystems.
