The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced a virtual webinar to provide an overview of Commissioner Policy 37 – the Environmental Benefit Project Policy (EBP) and how to submit ideas for the $500,000 Reworld Hempstead EBP in Region 1, Long Island.
The $500,000 EBP is part of an Order on Consent settling violations with the Reworld Hempstead facility (formerly Covanta Hempstead Resource Recovery Facility) and historic ash management.
The virtual webinar will take place on Wednesday, June 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. Members of the public can register for the event online. Please note, this session is for information purposes only and will not address ideas already submitted nor collect new project ideas during the session.
Proposed projects may include air quality monitoring/improvements, environmental restoration or habitat improvements, pollution prevention/reduction, among other needs the community may identify. The public is invited to submit ideas through a survey through July 11, 2025, or by emailing/submitting comments by email to [email protected] with the subject line “Reworld EBP.”
DEC will compile and review ideas submitted to help determine the selected project or projects. Once selected, Reworld is required to submit a plan for the EBP within 180 days of the consent order being signed.
