The Bashakill Marsh lies entirely within the Bashakill Wildlife Management Area that covers 2,409 acres. With 15 different access sites, this is a great area for canoes and kayaks. The Bashakill Marsh is the largest freshwater wetland in southeastern New York and represents a unique biotic community.

Bashakill Marsh can be accessed along Route 17 and South Road.

From the South Road Parking Area, near intersection with Route 61, wheelchair accessible features include the:

Fish Species:
Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Panfish and Bowfin.
Fishing:
A typical bowfin averages between 18 and 24 inches and can weigh up to 11 pounds. A great way to catch these fish is to use spinnerbaits, inline spinners and weedless plastic worms. If you prefer to use live bait, minnows or crayfish fished along the bottom are another great technique.
