The 783-acre Blenheim Hill State Forest has limited facilities. The property is used for water quality protection, recreation, wildlife habitat and timber production. The limited infrastructure on the property makes it an ideal place to hunt.

There aren't any marked or designated trails, but hiking is allowed throughout the property. Visitors may use the unpaved roads that cross the property.

There are no designated campsites; however, primitive camping is allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail, or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.

The Blenheim Hill State Forest lies within the Appalachian Plateau and Schoharie Hills ecozones. The area is characterized by mixed hardwood stands, hardwood/conifer and conifer plantations in various age classes. Much of the area is in moderate to steep slopes. This variety of habitat allows a wide diversity of wildlife species to exist on the unit, including many game species.

Directions

From Stamford: Head North on State Route 10, after 3.8 miles bear right onto County Route 12. Continue on County Route 12 for 2.8 miles before bearing right onto Welch Road. Follow Welch Road 2.1 miles and then turn right onto Ward Allen Road. Then, after 100 yards, turn left onto Quarry Road. The parking area will be on your right. Note: It is recommended only vehicles equipped with 4-wheel drive travel on Ward Allen Road and Quarry Road.

Rules, Regulations and Outdoor Safety

Practice Leave No Trace Principles when recreating on state land to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, minimize impact on the natural resources and avoid conflicts with other users.

All users of Blenheim Hill State Forest must follow all State Land Use Regulations and should follow all Outdoor Safety Practices for the safety of the user and protection of the resource.

Specific Rules

Hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, snowmobiling and horseback riding are allowed within the property but there are no designated trails or maintained areas for these activities.

Planning and Management

DEC manages these lands in accordance with the management activities described in the Eminence State Forest Unit Management Plan. In addition to management objectives, the UMP contains detailed information on natural features, recreational infrastructure, geology, natural & human history, habitats, wildlife, fisheries and much more.
