Blue Mountain Lake is located just outside the village of Blue Mountain Lake in central Hamilton County. The bottom of this lake has several deep pockets that can reach 100 feet, but overall the lake has a depth of 25 feet. These deep pockets provide cold water for trout to survive.

Access:
There are two private boat launches along Route 28 in the village of Blue Mountain Lake which may charge a fee. Neither launch is suitable for boats over 20 feet long. There is state land on the north side of the lake, however most of the shoreline is privately owned.
Fish Species:
Lake trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass, brown bullhead, landlocked salmon, rainbow smelt, pumpkinseed, and yellow perch.
Fishing:
When fishing for cold water species, try to find the deep pockets where the coldest water is found. Trolling for lake trout can be a challenge in this lake because of rapid changes in bottom depth. Many anglers prefer still fishing with suckers to catch the lakers. Salmon fishermen do well trolling flies along the surface near the inlet streams during the late April smelt spawning run. The southwest corner of the lake has shallow, rocky habitat which is preferred by smallmouth bass. Lake whitefish and redbreast sunfish were formerly common in this lake, but are now seldom caught.

Fisheries Management
Every year this lake is stocked with approximately 510 lake trout and 1,300 landlocked salmon. Blue Mountain Lake is one of the few lakes in Hamilton County where landlocked salmon are stocked. Surplus brook trout fingerlings are stocked when available in the fall.
