Daniels Road State Forest features mountain bike trails throughout the property. The trails range from easy to extremely difficult. The trails are maintained by the Saratoga Mountain Bike Association.

There are no designated primitive campsites; but primitive camping is allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail, or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.

Hunting is allowed during appropriate seasons. The main furbearers and game species found on the property include fisher, cottontail rabbit, wild turkey, and whitetail deer.

The Saratoga County has a variety of wildlife. An assortment of birds (including song birds, owls, and hawks) as well as mammals (including moles, mice, squirrels, and chipmunks) can be found within the Daniel's Road State Forest in addition to the notable hunting and trapping species. Ruffed grouse and eastern coyote have also been reported in the area.

Directions

From Saratoga Springs: At the corner of Broadway and Van Dam Street, head west on Van Dam Street for 300 yards and turn right onto Clinton Street. Follow Clinton street until it comes to a intersection with Daniels Road, about 1.43 miles. The parking area will be across from Clinton Street.

Rules, Regulations and Outdoor Safety

Practice Leave No Trace Principles when recreating on state land to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, minimize impact on the natural resources and avoid conflicts with other users.

All users of Daniels Road State Forest must follow all State Land Use Regulations and should follow all Outdoor Safety Practices for the safety of the user and protection of the resource.

Planning and Management

DEC is developing a unit management plan (UMP) which will describe the management activities for these lands. In addition to management objectives, the UMP will contain detailed information on natural features, recreational infrastructure, geology, natural and human history, habitats, wildlife, fisheries and much more.
