Located on the shore of the beautiful 5,935 acre Raquette Lake this 207 campsite park offers many opportunities for enjoying the Central Adirondack Mountains. Boating on Raquette Lake provides the opportunity to explore the 99 miles of shoreline with views of some historic Adirondack Great Camps , fish for the varied species of fish including lake and brook trout, small mouth bass and perch to name a few. Motorboats, rowboats and canoes are allowed. There is a shallow boat launch available for small and cartop boats and canoes. Golden Beach offers one of the largest natural beaches in the area. Swimming is allowed when lifeguards are on duty. Bring your picnic basket and enjoy lunch in our picnic area adjacent to the beach.

205 tent and trailer sites, picnic area with tables and fireplaces, firewood and ice sales, flush toilets, hot showers, trailer dump station, recycling center, sand beach, swimming area, bathhouse, hiking trails.

Directions

From New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 31 at Utica; north on Rte. 12 to Alder Creek; Rte. 28 through villages of Old Forge and Inlet; The campground is about 4 miles east of Raquette Lake Village on Rte. 28, left side of road.

From the Adirondack Northway (I-87), Exit 23 at Warrensburg; Route 9 North to Route 28 West through villages of Indian Lake, and Blue Mountain Lake; the campground is about 8 miles west on right side of Rte. 28.

Planning and Management

The Final Unit Management Plan (PDF) for the campground guides the DEC's land management activities at this facility for a five-year period, although a number of goals and objectives in the plan focus on a much longer time period. The UMP addresses specific objectives and actions for public use at this facility.

Area Attractions

The Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center at Newcomb is 30 miles east on N.Y.S. Route 28. The Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake is located 8 miles east on N.Y.S. Route 28, and features the History of the Adirondack Park. The village of Raquette Lake is 3 miles west on N.Y.S. Route 28, and offers restaurants, boat rentals, and scenic excursions on Raquette Lake with dining on board. Golf courses are available in the villages of Indian Lake and Inlet.

Historic Interest

Development of the campground began in 1929 and it opened to the public in 1931. Much of the continued development was accomplished by the Civilian Conservation Corp during 1933-1942.
