The main attraction for the 28-acre Goodyear Lake property is the car-top boat launch.

The main trail is an accessible route that runs 0.4-mile from the boat launch parking area on the eastern part of the property to an accessible fishing pier on the other side of the property. There are several benches placed along the trail for visitors.

Primitive camping is allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.

There is a hand-launch located on the eastern part of the property, which provides access to Goodyear Lake.

Accessible Features

From the Goodyear Lake Parking Area, off Silliman Cove Road, wheelchair accessible features include the:

  • Hand boat launch with dock and kayak slide;
  • Picnic area;
  • Hiking trail; and
  • Privy

The hand boat launch is approximately 250 feet from the parking area. The hiking trail, leading to the picnic area and fishing pier, is 0.4 mile one way and has a gentle grade (max. slope 10%), wide tread (min. width 3 feet), and firm crushed stone surface.

Directions

From Oneonta: Head northeast on State Route 7 for 6 miles. Take a sharp left onto County Route 35 and continue for approximately 0.8 mile before turning left onto Silliman Cove Road. Continue on Silliman Cove Road for 200 yards and bear right at the intersection. The parking area will be at the end of Silliman Cove Road.

Rules, Regulations and Outdoor Safety

Practice Leave No Trace Principles when recreating on state land to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, minimize impact on the natural resources and avoid conflicts with other users.

All users of Goodyear Lake must follow all State Land Use Regulations and should follow all Outdoor Safety Practices for the safety of the user and protection of the resource.

Planning and Management

DEC manages these lands in accordance with the management activities described in the Leatherstocking Unit Management Plan (UMP). In addition to management objectives, the UMP contains detailed information on natural features, recreational infrastructure, geology, natural and human history, habitats, wildlife, fisheries and much more.

Numerous guidebooks and maps are available with information on the lands, waters, trails and other recreational facilities in this area. These can be purchased at most outdoor equipment retailers, bookstores and on-line booksellers.

Additional information, outdoor equipment, trip suggestions and guided or self-guided tours may be obtained from outdoor guide and outfitting businesses. Check area chambers of commerce, telephone directories or search the internet for listings.
