Located just 1/4 mile south of the Village of Lake George, a popular summertime resort. It is near Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Parkway, which offers many spectacular views of the surrounding area. The campground is close to many historical locations. Many campers visit the Battleground to view the remains of the numerous military activities that took place on and around the campground location during the colonial period. Battleground campground is near a self guided historical interpretive path with educational information at the Battlefield Park. A short walk to the Lake George Beach for swimming and sun bathing is also a very popular activity. Shopping and theme parks are also very close by.

Planning and Management

The Final Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the campground guides the DEC's land management activities at this facility for a five-year period, although a number of goals and objectives in the plan focus on a much longer time period. Attractions: The Lake George region offers some of the most diverse recreational opportunities in the state of New York. Nature lovers will find boating, canoeing, hiking, and mountain climbing. Shoppers will enjoy the outlet malls, and everyone can enjoy the restaurants, theme parks, theatres, and historic sites.

Historic Interest: The park was established in 1927 at which time 45 sites were constructed. In 1929 11 more sites were added, and in 1955 12 more were constructed to bring the total to 68. Lake George Battleground is one of 4 campgrounds operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on and around Lake George (Lake George Islands, Rogers Rock, and Hearthstone Point are the others).
