The 1,817-acre Lutheranville State Forest features a forested ecosystem with natural and planted forest species. The property offers recreational hiking, camping, snowmobiling, hunting, trapping, and fishing opportunities.

There are no designated hiking trails in Lutheranville State Forest however hikers can use the trails designated as motorized access routes for people with disabilities.

Snowmobile trails described below can also be used for hiking in the warm months, however note that these trails will not be marked.

There are no designated primitive campsites at Lutheranville State Forest, however primitive camping is allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail, or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.

Fishing is permitted at Luthernaville State Forest. A small pond located west of Sisson Road has a population of bullhead.

Lutheranville State Forest is open to hunting during appropriate seasons. The unit features a number of young spruce plantations which provide good habitat for rabbits. Other wildlife to expect in this area include whitetail deer, squirrel, grouse and turkey along with mink, raccoon, fox, coyote and bobcat.

Lutheranville State Forest features 3.5 miles of a designated snowmobile trail system. These trails are signed and maintained by a local snowmobile club, the Summit Sno Riders.

Specific Rules

Biking and horseback riding are permitted activities on Lutheranville State Forest, but there are no designated trails or maintained areas for these activities.

Planning and Management

DEC is developing a unit management plan which will describe the management activities for these lands. In addition to management objectives, the UMP will contain detailed information on natural features, recreational infrastructure, geology, natural and human history, habitats, wildlife, fisheries and much more.
