Meadowbrook is the best bargain in town for those visiting the Lake Placid Olympic Training venues and the Village of Lake Placid. Located only 4 miles from the center of town, campers have no shortage of activities available to them. The nearby villages offer a variety of restaurants, gift stores, shopping, golf courses, boating, fishing, and various other activities. The campground is near many hiking trails for both the experienced and novice hiker. Also a short distance from the campground is Whiteface Mountain and the Memorial Highway, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

Directions

From the Northway (I-87) northbound: Exit 30 Route 73 north to Lake Placid. Route 86 4 miles west of Village of Lake Placid, Campground is on the left side of the road in Ray Brook, NY.

From the Northway (I-87) southbound: Exit 34 route 9N south to Jay; Route 86 south through Lake Placid; 4 miles west of the village in Ray Brook, left side of the road.

From Tupper Lake: Route 3 east to Saranac Lake, Route 86 east 4 miles, campground is on right side of the road in Ray Brook, NY.

Planning and Management

The Final Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the campground guides the DEC's land management activities at this facility for a five-year period, although a number of goals and objectives in the plan focus on a much longer time period. The UMP addresses specific objectives and actions for public use at this facility.

Area Attractions

Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway is only 15 miles away. The Saranac Inn Fish Hatchery is about 15 miles away. The Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center is about 18 miles west of the campground. Nearby villages offer a good variety of restaurants, gift stores, shopping malls, golf courses, horseback riding facilities, and antique shops.

Historic Interest

The campground first opened for public camping in 1933 with 30 developed camping sites. In 1961, 32 new camping sites were added.
