The facility location is best suited for daily hiking excursions in the Adirondack High Peaks, since it is a short distance from some of the most renown or notable hiking areas in the state, and is only minutes from Exit 30 on the Route 87, Northway. Sharp Bridge Campground is located on the west shore of the Schroon River. Camping equipment from tents to 45' RVs can be accommodated. Campground offers a variety of recreational opportunities including: Canoe and boating, fishing, hiking, and bicycling.

Directions

From Adirondack Northway (I-87), those approaching from the south side may use exit 29 in North Hudson and head east, or turn right. Turn left at the next STOP sign and travel approximately 8 miles. The campground is on the right.

Those approaching from the north (I-87), Exit 30, turn left and proceed 3 miles. The campground will be on your left.

Planning and Management

The Final Unit Management Plan (UMP) (PDF) for the campground guides the DEC's land management activities at this facility for a five-year period, although a number of goals and objectives in the plan focus on a much longer time period. The draft UMP addresses specific objectives and actions for public use at this facility.

Area Attractions

Lake Placid and the Olympic Venues are located to the northwest. The Lake Champlain region is to the east and northeast.

Historic Interest

In 1920 a single campsite was placed at the Sharp Bridge location. The next 6 to 8 years saw 39 additional sites developed. Improvements have been made over the years, but the basic camping area has seen little change.

Junior Naturalist Program

Our campgrounds become an outdoor classroom for young children (5-13) and their families. Enjoy games and activities to earn a beautiful embroidered patch.
