Texas Hill State Forest

Texas Hill State Forest, is a 704-acre forest characterized by gentle and rolling terrain. There are no formal recreational trails or facilities on this state forest. A single public forest access road can be used to enter the forest.

The forest is located mostly at an elevation of almost 2,000 feet and is about two and a half miles east of the village of Georgetown. Though there are no ponds or trout streams, a tributary stream to Pleasant Brook begins here. The forest offers good hunting for deer, grouse, turkey and woodcock. Winter access is poor.

Primitive camping is allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail, or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.

Directions

From Georgetown, travel east on East Hill Road 1.5 miles to Upham Road. Turn south (right) on Upham Road and take the first left onto Texas Hill Road. Travel approximately 0.8 mile and the main forest access road will be on your left (east side). There are two parking areas on the public forest access road.

Rules, Regulations and Outdoor Safety

Practice Leave No Trace Principles when recreating on state land to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, minimize impact on the natural resources and avoid conflicts with other users.

All users of Texas Hill State Forest must follow all State Land Use Regulations and should follow all Outdoor Safety Practices for the safety of the user and protection of the resource.

DEC manages these lands in accordance with the management activities described in the Lebanon Hills Unit Management Plan (PDF). In addition to management objectives, the UMP contains detailed information on natural features, recreational infrastructure, geology, natural and human history, habitats, wildlife, fisheries and much more.
