This boat access only campground provides great views of Raquette Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Amenities

15 lean-tos, 10 tent sites. Tioga Point is a primitive campground with no potable water. It is accessible by boat only. There are picnic tables, fireplaces and outhouses.

Directions

From New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 31 at Utica; north on Rte. 12 to Alder Creek; Rte. 28 through villages of Old Forge and Inlet; turn onto the road to the village of Raquette Lake; boat launch in center of village. Once at the boat launch, Tioga Point campground is approximately 3 miles north via boat, on the east shore. Golden Beach campground is about 4 miles east of Raquette Lake Village on Rte. 28, left side of road.

From the Adirondack Northway (I-87), Exit 23 at Warrensburg; Route 9 North to Route 28 West through villages of Indian Lake, and Blue Mountain Lake; Golden Beach is about 8 miles west on right side of Rte. 28. Tioga Point is reached by traveling another 4 miles west to Raquette Lake Village, boat launch in center of village. Once at the boat launch, the campground is approximately 3 miles via boat.

Planning and Management

The Final Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the campground guides the DEC's land management activities at this facility for a five-year period, although a number of goals and objectives in the plan focus on a much longer time period. The UMP addresses specific objectives and actions for public use at this facility.

Area Attractions

The Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center at Newcomb is 30 miles east on N.Y.S. Route 28. "The Adirondack Experience", the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake is located 12 miles east on N.Y.S. Route 28, and features the History of the Adirondack Park. The village of Raquette Lake is 3 miles south on N.Y.S. Route 28, and offers restaurants, boat rentals, and scenic excursions on Raquette Lake with dining on board. Golf courses are available in the villages of Indian Lake and Inlet.

Historic Interest

From 1951 to 1966 the Raquette Lake Boys Camp was operated by the Conservation Department on the site that is now Tioga Point Public Campground. The 21 buildings were removed during the winter of 1967-68, and the property was converted into a camping area for canoe route users.
