The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is holding a virtual public information session on the Habitat Management Plan (HMP) for Perch River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located in the towns of Brownville, Orleans, and Pamelia, in Jefferson County. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the information session will be conducted by teleconference on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
The session will include a brief presentation about how the HMP will be used to guide the management of the Perch River WMA and a question-and-answer session. The WMA is a popular hunting, trapping, and wildlife observation destination. Notable species that may be found on the WMA include American bittern, bald eagle, Cooper's hawk, osprey, brown thrasher, various shorebirds, a diversity of migratory waterfowl, blue-spotted salamander, snapping turtle, red fox, mink, and muskrat.
Registration for the session is encouraged. This presentation will be recorded and made available to the public after the session. Learn more about the Perch River WMA and HMP online or call DEC Region 6 offices at (315) 785-2263.
