Cayuga Inlet Flood Risk Reduction and Restoration Project
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is currently reviewing applications for permits related to the Cayuga Inlet Flood Risk Reduction and Restoration Project. The applicant is proposing temporary disturbances within NYS regulated freshwater wetland areas in association to dredging of the Cayuga Inlet and Old Cayuga Inlet to restore flood conveyance capacity within the Flood Risk Management Channel and water depths for navigation within the waterbodies. The proposal includes hydraulic dredging of accumulated sediments, conveyance of dredged sediment via floating piping to an existing Sediment Management Facility for dewatering and sediment storage, and discharge of sediment filtrate back to the Inlet. DEC extended the written comment period and is currently accepting comments on the application through May 16, 2026.
Additional information, including how to view the complete application and how to submit comments, can be found in the Environmental Notice Bulletin.
