Long Island NY has a great diversity of fish within numerous warmwater lakes and ponds, and trout fishing in streams such as the Carmans River. DEC's Region 1 Fisheries Unit regularly monitors and evaluates the health of the state's fish populations to enhance and/or restore the fisheries. One method of accomplishing this is by undertaking regular surveys to gather data.
