Hale Creek Field Station is situated on 80 acres, 40 of which is forested land. The site has 2 miles of hiking trails through deep woods making it an idea location for spring and fall songbird migration viewing.
Originally constructed as a fish hatchery, fish are raised on the site for public display and education. Since 1978 the facility has been managed as an analytical lab where the Department analyzes fish and wildlife for chemical contaminants.
The grounds and trails are open daily from dawn to dusk, staff are on site Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Site activities include hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, birding, and hatchery fish viewing. The site is a carry-in carry-out facility.
The property is managed by the Bureau of Ecosystem Health in the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
