Located at the northern end of the Hudson River Estuary, the park is actually a peninsula formed when three large and several smaller islands were joined as part of a Hudson River dredge project. A large portion of the park is designated a Bird Conservation Area. Interpretive signs highlight the park's historic and environmental significance.
